Verified ways to help

This page is empty on purpose.

I am not going to list organisations I have not checked, and I am not going to collect money on behalf of anyone. Both of those things are easy to do and easy to get wrong, and getting them wrong causes real harm.

When organisations appear here, you will give to them directly, on their own website, through their own systems. Your money will not pass through me. I will not take a share, and I will have no financial interest in whether you give.

What I will check before listing anyone

  • That the organisation legally exists, and under what structure.
  • That it is registered to receive the kind of funding it asks for, including foreign contributions where relevant.
  • That it has a written child-safeguarding policy, and that staff and volunteers are screened.
  • That its finances are published or available on request.
  • That its stated work matches what people who have dealt with it actually describe.
  • That its approach does not rely on displaying identifiable children to raise money.
  • That people with relevant Indian expertise, not just me, think it is sound.

What I will always disclose

  • The date I reviewed the organisation, so you know how current it is.
  • Any personal, financial, or collaborative relationship I have with it.
  • That a review is not a guarantee of future conduct, and not a formal partnership unless it is confirmed in writing.

In the meantime

If you want to help now, the most useful thing you can do is tell me about an organisation you know and trust, and how you know it. That is how this page will eventually get written.
